THE SUN shone and everybody enjoyed themselves at the Forest of Bere Bowmen’s annual longbow shoot.
Archers from Hampshire, Sussex and Surrey took part. Prizes were presented by Sandie Baigent, a longbow archer from Sway in the New Forest. The first prize for men was won by Alan Smith, from Newhaven Archery Club in Sussex, and the first prize for women was won by Julie Pilbeam, of Farnham Archers. John Taylor, of Forest of Bere Bowmen, won a trophy and gold labelled beer for having the best gold. At any shoot when the judge says leave your best gold in, all of the arrows in the gold part of the target are checked. The arrow nearest the very centre out of all of the targets wins the best gold prize.
