STUDENTS at Midhurst Rother College were inspired by the visit of Alex Danson, a member of the successful Team GB hockey squad who helped the team win their first Olympic gold medal in Rio de Janeiro this summer.

Alex, complete with her Rio gold medal, spent the day inspiring and motivating girls to participate in sport, showing them how to develop winning habits and the mental agility it takes to be a champion.

During assembly she talked about her story, her achievements and her drive to be successful.

Alex said: “Anything is possible if you really want to achieve it and are prepared to work hard at it.”

Alex overcame rejection several times as a young player, her stature being deemed too small for the sport, with her determination being rewarded with an Olympic title.

She ended her day at the college with a practical masterclass, during which she passed a variety of skills and drills to staff and students.

Director of sport and performance, Simon Hills, said: “This was a memorable visit from a brilliant and engaging athlete who is at the very top of her game.

“She is a true inspiration to our students.”
