Chichester Hockey Club staged a Covid-compliant under-tens tournament also involving, Havant, Gosport and Petersfield.

Each team had six players, with no substitutes allowed, and the sides played each other twice.

Petersfield began with a hard-fought goalless draw against Havant in which the two midfields cancelled each other out.

Against Gosport a stray pass to their star player saw them score a breakaway goal, but Petersfield stuck to their game plan and Harry Cleife got on the ball in the D to hit it into the corner. Another Cleife goal in the last two minutes saw Petersfield win 2-1 having dominated possession and territory.

Chichester soon trailed to Petersfield as George Shanks spun on the edge of the D and won a free hit. Taking it quickly, Shanks threaded it through to the unmarked Thomas Crabtree, who swept it in at the near post. George Sands and Alex Temple were tackling strongly, and when Temple won the ball on the edge of the D she fed Cleife to make it 2-0.

The second game against Havant was another scoreless midfield stalemate. Then Gosport were 2-0 down after three minutes against Petersfield as Temple swept a free hit across the D for Crabtree to sweep in, and then Cleife took a rapid free hit as a self-pass and drove into the D to score through a crowd of defenders.

Henry Marshall completed two crunching tackles and pushed the ball through to Cleife to finish off between two defenders, Crabtree poached the ball to score on his own, and a poor 16-yard hit went straight to Cleife who made it 5-0 before the defence could recover.

In the final game, against Chichester, Petersfield ground out a 1-0 win when Shanks swept the ball across to Crabtree to push home at the far post.
