Petersfield Veterans 1 Trojans Veterans 5: AN UNDERSTRENGTH Petersfield Veterans side conceded five goals to Trojans in an otherwise keenly fought game.

Trojans dominated from the start, playing smart attacking hockey. Broadmeadow had to make some early saves in the Petersfield goal and Morley had to concede a number of penalty corners through timely deflections over the back-line.

Although the defence of Cornelius, Morley, MacIntyre and Budden kept Trojans at bay early on, the visitors took the lead when they followed up into an empty net after a fine save from the Petersfield keeper.

It was by no means all one-way traffic. Hulme’s wicked shot was saved by the Trojans keeper, and later in the first half the ball was taken off the end of White’s stick when he seemed certain to score at Petersfield’s first penalty corner.

Five minutes before the break, Trojans doubled their lead with an unstoppable shot from the top of the D.

The away side scored two further goals at the start of the second half, as Trojans continued to dominate.

However, with 20 minutes to go, Pruden appeared and added some bite to the Petersfield attack, linking up well with Thompson, Wilson and Casabianca. He pulled one back through a smart reverse stick shot, but then saw his penalty flick saved after Thompson’s penalty corner strike was kept out by a defender’s foot.

The home side continued to battle to the end, but conceded one further goal.
