Waverley Harriers travelled to Abingdon in Oxfordshire for the final Wessex Young Athletes Track and Field League meet of the season, competing against six other clubs from across the south of England.

Despite a challenging mix of heavy wind, rain and a few moments of sun, the Waverley athletes aged between 11 and 17 years old performed well with some strong individual performances and a good set of personal bests. The team overall finished the season in third place, with the under-15 girls winning and the under-13 boys, under-17 men and women all finishing second.

The younger ‘Quad kids’ up to 11 years old competed in a 75m sprint, 600m long distance, long jump and ‘howler’ throw. The boys finished the season in ninth place with the girls 11th.

Bill Bingham, founder and manager of Waverley Harriers, said: “We’ve had a great season and it’s been rewarding to see so many athletes building their skills and confidence and improving with every event.

“They have supported each other in their development and shared in each other’s individual successes as well as working really well as a team.”
