PETERSFIELD Hockey Club’s men’s third team cruised to a comprehensive 7-1 victory against Fareham’s eighth team on Saturday.

With Dan Cleife, Josh Bardoe and Ben White dominating possession in the middle of the pitch, the home team were soon on the attack.

The early and constant pressure soon told when Cleife found an unmarked B White at the top of the D, who slotted home at the near post. Cleife’s trickery then created space for him to hammer home a lifted shot to make it 2-0.

Fareham had little going forward but did reduce the deficit with a rare attack, when a shot was deflected in by an unmarked forward standing in front of keeper Charlie Weller.

Petersfield kept the pressure on and B White converted from close range when the ball was slipped back to him from a slick short corner routine.

Cleife then grabbed his second of the game with another fierce shot to make it 4-1.

The home team continued to dominate possession in the second half.

Nick Budden at the back launched many attacks, often finding an outlet in Dave Morley and Alexander Young down the right, and Bardoe continued to boss the midfield.

The next goal game when Bardoe’s goalbound shot was blocked by Robero Casabianca, who then turned the ball in himself from close range. Another short corner then saw Paul Vickers fire home from the top of the D.

With more opportunities coming from the wide running of Young and Elliot White, more goals looked inevitable.

More pressure led to another short corner and B White lifted the return ball from Cleife into the roof of the net to complete his hat-trick.
