NEW RESEARCH has revealed that residents in the south east are the most likely to give and ask for a new smartphone for Christmas.

The survey, conducted by mobile phone insurer Insurance2Go, looks into how many of us from England and Scotland will be hoping to find a new handset in our stocking on Christmas morning.

The south east region of England topped the polls for gifting a new smartphone to someone with 42 per cent, and it was also the same area with the highest number of people asking for a new smartphone.

Regions most likely to gift a new smartphone as a present this Christmas:

1. South East England (42 per cent)

2. Scotland (31 per cent)

3. Northern England (30 per cent)

4. Central England (30 per cent)

Regions most likely to ask for a new smartphone this Christmas:

1. South East England (47 per cent)

2. Scotland (44 per cent)

3. Central England (34 per cent)

4. Northern England (32 per cent)

The data also highlighted a growing trend in the gifting of smartphones, with 34 per cent planning to purchase one or start a contract for someone else this year.

Marketing director of Insurance2Go, Gary Beeston, said: “The majority of people own a smartphone these days, but the increased range of handsets available is what’s really exciting for tech lovers.”
