A Hampshire schoolboy has raised more than £1,700 after completing a mountainous fundraising challenge at a beauty spot near Petersfield, writes Jasmine Carr.
Hadley Orrell climbed the equivalent of Everest by running up – and down – Butser Hill 50 times over five days.
He recently took on the impressive feat of endurance for Cancer Research UK, a charity close to him and his family.
Every month Hadley likes to complete a fundraising event or fitness challenge as he loves mountaineering and hiking and wanted to turn his hobby into a charity event.
Friends and relatives came together to help with one of his teachers and a hockey teammate joining him on one walk and his grandparents helping with lunch.
A chance meeting with a local walker helped spread the word with the total rising by more than £1,000 in one day after the meeting.
Hadley said he only expected to get around £200 but his current www.gofundme.com total stands at over £1,700 at the time of writing.
The Fareham youngster, who has ambitions to climb Everest in the future, admitted his mission was difficult at times but he just had to keep his head down and keep going as he focused on “putting one foot in front of the other.”
