IT WILL be a case of hair today, gone tomorrow when award-winning artist Victoria Melody arrives at Bedales with her experimental one-woman show.

But audiences lucky enough to see her perform on May 10, as part of a national tour, will be taken on a journey from India to Russia and back into our hair salons, with questions asked along the way about beauty and ethics.

Hair Peace was devised after Victoria competed in beauty pageants for her previous show Mayor Tom.

A hairdresser advised her that she needed hair extensions and, disturbed by wearing a piece of somebody else’s body, she set out on a quest to find out exactly where the hair came from.

One hair piece was from India, one from Russia, and a mystery one, labelled only ‘Remy’, was tested by the forensics department at King’s College London, and turned out to be from DNA never seen before.

Said Victoria:?“Hair Peace is an experimental show that is political, ethical and very relevant to many social and global issues today.

“Big questions about capitalism, cultures and beauty are raised, but what transpires is a simple true story of three unrelated strangers from different parts of the world connected by DNA in a most unique way.”

Tickets are £9-11.
