A RECORD number of artists will get a brush with the public this afternoon in a fundraising event for Hampshire’s Rural Refugee Network.
Bedales School will host an Art Sale today (Monday, March 4) in aid of the charity and its John Badley Foundation (JBF) Emergency Refugee Fund.
More than 50 artists will showcase their work at the annual event with over 200 pieces priced from £20 to £10,000 being up for grabs. Proceeds will provide refugees from the likes of Ukraine and Afghanistan with language lessons, employment training and accommodation.
“We’ve been delighted with the response,” said Anne Tutt, Chair of the Rural Refugee Network.
“It just shows that, in spite of the terrible things happening in the world, there is still so much compassion out there.”
Exhibitors will include Emma Hartley, Nick McMillen, Olive Wootton, Mark Wickham, Scott Pohlschmidt, Simon Hitchens, Bromley & Bouverie, Michael Minas, Deborah Mitchelson, Matthew Rice and Ukrainian artist Olga Morozova.
It’s “so inspiring” for Bedales and its community to host the event with the RRN and its supporting artist according to the school’s head, Will Goldsmith.
He added: “Our JBF Emergency Refugee Fund enables young people to attend Bedales Senior and Prep schools who have been displaced from their homes and had their education disrupted.
“By coming along on the night and buying artwork, people will be supporting our two charities and helping more young people seeking to rebuild their lives.”
