FOSTER carers are being sought in a big recruitment campaign by Petersfield-based charity The Children’s Family Trust (CFT) as it celebrates its 70th anniversary.

The trust, which has an office in Station Road, provides secure, supportive and nurturing foster homes for vulnerable children, both short and long term.

And with 20 carers already on its books, currently looking after 24 youngsters aged four months to 16 years old, it is looking to double that figure.

“Our carers come from all walks of life, as the children do,” said CFT manager Karen Blackman.

“We don’t discriminate. It’s about wanting to do it for the right reasons, as it can be a difficult job with the children often coming from chaotic backgrounds. But although it’s challenging, the rewards you get from seeing the children develop and grow is fantastic.”

Neglect was the main reason for children being taken into care, and also domestic violence or family illness.

An open day at the Petersfield office last month brought enquiries from possible new carers.

This was to mark the milestone of the trust, with its ‘family for life’ ethos.
