A MOTORBIKE rider has hit out at reckless and arrogant car drivers after a near-miss on a country road near Petersfield.

Andy Synyszyn (52) has also blasted “sloppy” parkers, and the police for failing to get to grips with the problems.

The IT consultant, who drives around 10,000 miles a year on his Honda, is enraged after almost being knocked off his motorbike by a 4x4 vehicle towing a trailer.

This happened between Oxenbourne, near East Meon, and Petersfield, with a video camera on the front of Andy’s bike showing how close he came to crashing.

The camera shows him travelling below 30mph but having to swerve suddenly and come to an abrupt halt to let the speeding vehicle by as it came round a corner.

“I was just lucky I was on a bike as if I had been in a car there would have been a crash.

“I anticipated the scenario having seen it time and time again.

“You’ll notice I was travelling at 20mph to 30mph on the far left waiting for something to come racing round one of the blind bends.

“I’ve noticed more and more in recent years drivers – it has to be said usually in big 4x4s – tearing along our back roads at speeds far in excess of the stopping distance for the visibility available on a twisty track back road,” he said.

Andy, from Whitehill, hasn’t reported the incident as he has previously given police evidence of motorists on the phone while behind the wheel with no action taken.

“We pay more and more for policing in our council tax but we have less and less police available to us.

“Unfortunately, the public perception of the police is that they are only interested in speed cameras.”

His anger is also aimed at people who park inconsiderately.

Again, he believes the main culprits are 4x4 drivers who park their vehicles across two spaces or without leaving enough space for cars to park alongside.

He has taken photographs of such parking at places including Petersfield’s central car park.

A spokeswoman for Hampshire Constabulary said a comment couldn’t be given on the near-miss recorded by Andy without the evidence examined.
