TEETHING problems with East Hampshire District Council’s new rubbish collection calendars led to some people in Clanfield not having bins collected on October 4.

New calendars were published online and sent through the post when new contractor Norse South East took over from Biffa on October 1.

For one round in Clanfield, the council website showed the H7 calendar but the paper version was H17.

In White Dirt Lane both green and black bins were put out as people did not know which to follow.

Resident Jenny Rowney said: “These two gave completely different bins to be emptied, which left people completely in the dark.

“People began checking with East Hampshire District Council which bin was being emptied on the Friday.

"There was more conflicting advice and nobody seemed to be sure.

"Some residents were told it might be wise to put both bins out.

“As two of my neighbours were away I had the dilemma which of the bins I should put out for them.

“It turns out H17 was the correct one and the black bins were collected.

"This leaves all those who followed H7 left with unemptied bins.

“You would have thought that with a big change like this they would have ensured the information was correct.”

Head of strategic commissioning Claire Hughes said: “We are very sorry for the confusion caused around the calendars for rounds H7 and H17.

"The problem was caused by a technical issue with our online maps which has now been resolved.

“Until we were able to establish whether the problem was with the printed calendars or the online version, the only advice we could give to residents was to put both out.

"Anyone who didn’t have their bin collected can report it as missed and Norse South East will return to pick it up.”
