PETERSFIELD Royal British Legion’s Poppy appeal is going “exceptionally well” this year says organiser and British Legion standard bearer Geoff Williams.

He said: “So far, the street collectors have raised more than £8,500 – it’s going exceptionally well, people are being so generous.” And, for the first time, members of Petersfield Bowling and Snooker Club in St Peter’s Road and their friends have been out selling poppies. The club is used as a base during the appeal which finishes on the morning of Saturday, November 11, and two volunteers, David Hooper and Alan Twiddy (pictured right with friend Ian Essai), have really stepped up says Geoff. He added: “They have done an immense amount, as well as helping with the street collection, they are looking after the poppy sellers in East Meon and Steep.” Money raised from the appeal goes to help former Service personnel, their families and dependants.
