THE NEW caravan campsite at Harris Caravans in Liss will soon be up and running.

Work is being carried out on three new holiday buildings, to add to the existing 12 caravan pitches, three holiday buildings and shower/toilet block at the site.

Work is also being done on a communal area, cafe and shop, which people staying at the campsite will be able to use.

Liss businessman Terry Harris, who owns Harris Caravans in Farnham Road with his wife Shannette, is pleased with how the site is coming along.

Terry said: “We’ve been working on the communal area, cafe and shop for about the last six months, and it should be finished in the next three or four weeks.

“We’ve also worked on the three holiday buildings for the last three months and they should be finished in the next three weeks.”

Terry has already had plenty of visitors to his campsite, who have used the existing 12 caravan pitches and three holiday buildings.

“We usually have five or six people a week here regularly,” said Terry.

“Once the other three holiday buildings are done and the cafe is done we’ll have an official opening event. At the moment we’re just playing it by ear, but hopefully it will be soon.”

Terry hopes to utilise his position in the South Downs National Park and attract tourists to the area.

He said: “There’s nothing like this in the national park, because we’ve got a small cafe and a community room for activities for children.

“They’ve got loads of places to go walking and hiking in the national park, and there’s loads of local pubs, but if it’s raining we’ve got things on site to do.

“I think the campsite will become more popular when it’s finished, and I’m hoping that we’re going to get some brown tourist boards on the Ham Barn roundabout.”
