A FORMER cancer sufferer set to become a curate for West Meon, East Meon, Langrish and Warnford believes her experience of living with cancer will help her minister more effectively.

Mother-of-three Katy Gardener is due to be ordained by the Bishop of Portsmouth on Saturday in Portsmouth Cathedral, and will then take up her role as curate in the Meon Valley.

In March 2012 she was diagnosed for a second time with cancer, and after a melanoma was removed she received immune boosting therapy aimed at preventing the cancer returning.

She said: “I’ll only really know if it has worked after 10 years. But the doctors say in their experience, those who react the strongest to the drugs have the best chance.

“Faith is a journey and does involve doubts. It has made me ask questions, and that has led to a more permanent and beautiful relationship with God.

“I see God in this situation, I couldn’t have walked this journey without him.”
