HUNDREDS of Women's Institute members are preparing to celebrate as a centenary baton passes through East Hampshire.

A classic car will pull up in The Square in Petersfield next Wednesday (January 14) to take the specially designed baton on the next leg of its journey across the county as part of its nationwide tour to mark 100 years of the WI.

A celebratory coffee morning for the five Petersfield groups – Sheet, which is the oldest WI in Hampshire, Stroud Afternoon and Evening, West Meon and Petersfield – is being held at St Peter's Church from 9am to noon that morning too, and there will be an exhibition of WI?history.

Secretary of the group, Rosemary Bishop, and president Gill Clarke, will attend a fish and chip supper in Hambledon the night before, to receive the baton from the Southdowns group.

They will then bring it to Petersfield overnight before....
