PETERSFIELD residents and business owners are invited to a public workshop and meeting to learn more about proposals to make the town centre more pedestrian friendly, and debate the ideas being put forward.

The proposed shared space vision could see pedestrians and cyclists take precedence over cars from the railway station, down Lavant Street, along Chapel Street, through The Square and down High Street.

The vision is a central theme in the Petersfield Neighbourhhod Plan, and is backed in principle by Petersfield Town Council, South Downs National Park Authority, East Hampshire District Council and the meeting organisers, The Petersfield Society.

Society chairman Graham Brown said: “Everyone who lives in the town is invited, we want to hear as many views as possible, so we can feed them back into the Shared Space process.

“The workshop is to share thoughts on how best the shared space can be designed to provide access for everyone.

“This includes shop and business owners, pedestrians, wheelechair users, mums with buggies, pushchairs and trollies, cyclists, motorists, public transport, and delivery vehicles.

“The event will also look at street furniture, community noticeboards, town centre trees, and other planting. Conclusions from the meeting will, in some form, be included in any potential development brief.”

The free entry workshop and meeting is in the United Reformed Church hall in College Street, from 7pm on Monday, March 5.
