A GROUP that offers life-changing support to East Hampshire victims of domestic abuse is counting on the public’s help in a bid to secure £25,000.

The money will make a huge difference to the Southern Domestic Abuse Service (SDAS) and their campaign to build a £1million refuge in Havant.

But they face competition to secure the money from the Aviva Community Fund as the good cause will need to finish strongly in a public vote to stand a chance of winning the cash.

“We have got through to the public voting stage so now it’s all about making sure people know about our bid and encouraging them to vote for us,” said SDAS fundraising manager, Heather Reid.

“This £25,000 would make a very real different to our appeal so we need to spread the word.”

There’s a real need for a refuge as the SDAS provided services and support to 2,270 victims of domestic abuse from the greater Portsmouth, East Hampshire and Rushmoor areas in 2015.

The facility will be a safe house where victims can stay with their children until they are confident and safe enough to move on.

People have until November 18 to cast their vote for the SDAS at www.community-fund.aviva.co.uk/voting/project/view/16-1745
