THE?PERFECT?antidote to the often bleak climes of February is promised by The Petersfield Choir in their next concert.

A musical programme full of warmth, excitement and drama will be sung out at St Peter’s Church, Petersfield, on Saturday, February 20.

Handel’s Dixit Dominus, composed in Italy when he was just 22 years old, is sure to be a winner with the audience, combining Italian influences with the energy, flamboyance and experimentation of a young genius.

Director Steve Sargent enthused:?“This is probably one of the most exciting works in the choral repertoire, for singers and audiences alike. If anyone thinks that choral music isn’t for them, they should come and try this!”

Also on the programme is Bach’s evergreen Air on the G String, made famous by the Hamlet cigar advert, which will be given expert treatment by the strings of the SouthDowns Camerata who will be accompanying the whole concert.

More seasonably, the choir will also be performing a new setting of Stabat Mater, an emotional account of Mary’s suffering during the crucifixion.

The concert includes five professional soloists. The choir, which will perform at New York’s Carnegie Hall later this year, are going from strength to strength.

Admission free, with a retiring collection for hospice-at-home charity The Rosemary Foundation.
