A CLIMATE change event in Petersfield which looked at how to help avert, or slow down, the changing face of our weather, is to go on the road across East Hampshire.
The initial event on Thursday, April 30, in the United Reformed Church hall in College Street, was ‘standing room only’ said joint organiser Ian James of the Green Party.
Petersfield Town Council member John Palmer, the other organiser, explained climate change, its causes, its effects and some possible solutions.
And to illustrate his points, videos featuring David Attenborough, Greta Thunburg, Kevin Anderson and Al Gore were shown.
He said: “It was a very successful evening, with some very well made points from the audience.”
Ian added: “Some very significant actions that individuals can take to help alleviate climate change were considered.
“The most significant, to stop using a private car completely and switch to using electric vehicles, was the most challenging.
“Two others were much less challenging.
“The first was fairly straightforward and something anyone can do – to switch to an energy supplier that uses completely renewal generation sources.
“The last surprised many in the audience, and it was to change to a plant-based diet.
“Meat production has a massive carbon footprint and has negative impacts on many other vital resources.
“This public meeting was very successful and we will develop it into a road show to be toured to venues throughout East Hampshire.”
