Crime levels in Petersfield fell to their lowest point for more than year in June according to the latest police data.
But it was the opposite case in Liss – with a spate of vehicle crimes and public order offences pushing figures up to their highest level since August 2024.
Crime fell by 44 per cent in the Petersfield patch with 57 being reported in June compared to 103 the month before.
The previous low was 69 in March while the figure is more than half the 124 reported in August last year.
Some 21 of the crimes reported involved violence or sexual offences (VSOs) while shoplifting was the next most common with nine.
Around one in every six offences recorded in the town over the month took place in the Tesco Causeway car park area with incidents involving shoplifting (4), VSOs and vehicle crime (2) and anti-social behaviour (1) being reported.
A robbery also took place in the area while burglaries were also reported on Moggs Mead and Winton Road.
Some 37 crimes were reported in Liss to equal the previous 12-month high set in July 2024.
A dozen involved VSOs while there was a spate of vehicle crimes around the village, with St Mary’s Road, Hill Brow Road and Rake being hotspots.
Burglaries were also reported on Western Road and Stodham Lane, between the railway and A3, while reports of someone being in possession of a dangerous weapon in Greatham were also investigated.
Crime levels in the Butser patch which includes Buriton, Clanfield and Rowlands Castle were steady with 44 being reported compared to 38, although ‘old’ Clanfield village centre saw a minor spate of public order offences.
Some 15 crimes were reported in the Rogate, Stedham and Harting patch. The figures and a further breakdown can be seen on www.police.uk
