SKY WATCHERS are in for a treat until the end of the month with meteor showers making their dazzling annual display.
From tonight (November 17) until November 30, you can see the showers at their best if you get out of bed between 3am and dawn.
Countryside and coastal areas are the most optimum vantage points, away from urban lighting, and no equipment is needed as they can be seen with the naked eye on a clear night.
The showers occur when the earth’s orbit takes us through the debris that follows a comet.
When the earth passes through the debris, particles burn up in the atmosphere.
The Leonid meteors, named after the Leo constellation, shoot outwards, looking like a lion’s mane.
