THIS year’s Classic Car Day at the Deer’s Hut in Liphook was the “biggest one yet,” say organisers.

The sun shone all day for the 31st running of the event, which raised money for various good causes in Liphook.

Deer’s Hut managing director Deborah Steel said: “It was well attended and it was by far the biggest one yet.

“The hot weather helped and people flocked to the Deer’s Hut.

“It was a fun-filled event with an enormous turn out of classic cars, and rides were even offered in a McLaren 520 GT.”

As well as the cars on display there was plenty happening to keep visitors entertained, with refreshments, live music and a fairground ride from Hollycombe Steam in the Country.

Debbie said: “We had live music from local band Let The Good Times Roll, as well as burgers cooked by the Scouts, pulled pork, paella and sausage baps.

“Ben Govier also brought two ice cream vans to help everyone stay cool.”

Debbie added that the Classic Car Day continues to get better every year.

She said: “We have people here from the local area but we also have people travelling extensively from all over the south of England.

“We had one person here this year who hadn’t been here for ten years, and they couldn’t believe how much the event had grown. It used to be a few cars in a field.”

With the event continuing to grow, Debbie paid tribute to everybody who helped at this year’s Classic Car Day.

She added: “This year really was a community event and I would like to give huge thanks to all of my wonderful staff and regulars.

“I would also like to thank our sponsors, Clarke Gammon Wellers, and I would like to thank Mr and Mrs Shilling for the free rides in the McLaren, which were Mr Shilling’s idea.

“We had people from all walks of life and lots of people stepped up and helped.

“The fire service brought a fire hydrant, which the kids absolutely loved.

“The fire service were even called out to a job, but they came back afterwards.

“The main beneficiaries from the money we have raised will be the Scouts and Guides, and Liphook Fire Service and the Liphook Day Care centre will also receive donations.”
