IT’S not sinking – this mechanical digger is meant to be in Petersfield Heath Pond!

In this photo by John Wigley, the machine has been driven into the shallow pond to carry out work as part of a programme to stabilise its banks, improve biodiversity and install a new boardwalk which will be longer and twice as wide as the old one.

Other improvements will include thinning out the trees on the Sussex Road side to let more light on to the water and planting water plants including the yellow flag iris.

Petersfield Town Council wants volunteers to help with the planting in late March or early April.

Anyone interested should call Kathryn Ellis-Blandford on 01730 264182.
