A PARTY for the Queen’s 90th birthday on Steep recreation ground proved a real pull for residents.

Held in warm sunshine on Saturday, the get together saw party goers enter teams for a tug of war match, and enjoy many other entertainments.

Joint organiser Selina Garstin said: “The party went really well, there was tug-of-war, loads of games for children, teas, burgers and ice creams, and a very busy dog show – it seemed there were dogs everywhere.

“There was also music, which went on into the evening, and it was a chance for everyone to enjoy the Queen’s birthday together.”

The party was opened by Selina’s 96-year-old mother, who arrived looking especially regal.

Selina added: “She was dressed as the Queen, and accompanied by a Prince Phillip, and between them they opened the party. One little girl who spoke to her was convinced she had actually spoken to The Queen.”

As well as being great fun, the event raised money for charity Home-Start Butser and All Saints Church, Steep.
