TELEVISION magician Dynamo electrified youngsters at the King’s Arms Youth Club in Petersfield when he seemingly appeared from nowhere last Tuesday (January 9) to offer support – and bring a bit of magic into their lives.
His sister-in-law and youth club volunteer Lorisa Alder, of Herne Farm, invited him to the club in the Festival Hall car park – Dynamo is married to Lorisa’s sister Kelly.
Lorisa and her husband have lived in Petersfield for about three years, and Dynamo, Steven Frayne, and Kelly are regular visitors to the town.
Owner of the Town House bar and restaurant in Petersfield High Street Dom Humphries said: “He has been in here a couple of times, and he’s a really nice guy, very genuine.”
Dynamo is passionate about helping young people have every chance to get on in life, said Lorisa.
Growing up in Bradford the young Steven Frayne was bullied, and says help from the Princes Trust with his magic career was key to his success.
Lorisa, who is originally from Birmingham, said: “Steven is very passionate about helping children, it’s really important to him.
“He knows what it is like to be a target, he had a fairly challenging upbringing and applying to the Princes Trust for financial help with his career was the difference.
“He knows that without that help his life might not be what it is now, and he is very passionate about young people having every chance of success they can.”
Steven and Kelly live in north?London, and on the night of his visit to the King’s Arms yesterday evening (Tuesday) he learned about M25 rush hour traffic jams, arriving nearly 30 minutes late.
He came into the youth club through a side door while the unaware youngsters played pool, chatted and enjoyed themselves.
They didn’t know what to expect when they were invited to watch a short video cartoon about a young man growing up, and how he worked for a better life.
As it ended, but before the lights went up, out from a darkened passage stepped the slight figure of Dynamo –and the youngsters were in a world where magic ruled and everything was possible.
