The Flora Twort Gallery is hosting an exhibition by Petersfield craftswoman Katrin Eagle this month.

A Celebration of Wool runs until Saturday, October 24 at the Church Path Studio venue.

Katrin is a wool artist and designer who works from her home studio in Petersfield. She moved to the area only last year after living in Scotland for many years.

Her wool art involves using carded wool to create ‘paintings’ by using dry felting methods to combine the fibres.

She particularly enjoys creating landscapes and produces subtle shades by carding together fleece of different colours in a similar way to mixing paint on a palette. Smaller felted items include colourful brooches and gnomes which are sculpted using a felting needle.

Katrin is also an avid spinner and uses fleece which she sources direct from sheep and alpaca farmers around the UK. The fleeces are washed and carded by hand before being dyed ready for blending and spinning. The resulting yarns are woven on a small loom into unique scarves. Handspun yarns add a depth of colour and irregular texture, she says, which can never be achieved with commercially spun fibres.

Katrin is of Estonian heritage and has also produced a range of painted folk art cat designs inspired by the traditional embroideries used in Estonian national costume.

The Flora Twort Gallery is open 10am-4pm, Tuesday to Saturday. Adult entry fee of £2 applies or £3 to include a visit to Petersfield Museum on the same day.
