POLICE in East Hampshire are reminding residents not to give out bank details to telephone callers and join a scheme that stops unsolicited calls. .

Police Community Support Officer Tobey Mason said: “We have had reports of people receiving suspicious telephone calls.

“If anybody asks for any personal or banking details over the telephone then please do not disclose this information. If someone claims to be calling from the bank then it is always worth ringing your local branch just to check that they do indeed need to contact you.

“You are never obliged to give your details over the telephone so do not feel that this is something you have to do.

“If you are receiving a lot of unsolicited calls it may benefit you to look into the Telephone Preference Sscheme.”.

The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is a free service. It is the official central opt out register on which you can record your preference not to receive unsolicited sales or marketing calls. It is a legal requirement that all organisations (including charities, voluntary organisations and political parties) do not make such calls to numbers registered on the TPS unless they have your consent to do so.
