THINGS added up correctly for two Alton College students who took part in the Mathematical Olympiad for Girls, a national event run by the UK?Mathematics Trust to help nurture the talent of young female mathematicians.
Sara Garanito received a Certificate of Participation while Lucy Bayliss achieved a Certificate of Distinction for getting full marks on one of the questions. The students are pictured with the college’s curriculum manager for maths, Dr Dave Lynch.
One hundred students from the college also took part in the national Senior Maths Challenge, with nine of them achieving a gold award, 31 getting silver and 29 hitting the bronze level.
