YEAR 3 children at Brookham pre-prep in Liphook took part in a healthy breakfast challenge.

The children have been learning about a balanced diet, how different foods help the body in different ways, and are beginning to learn about the digestive system. In their lessons they have all been planning their healthy breakfasts by creating a menu and deciding what equipment they would need.

As part of this topic, the children visited Highfield’s science lab and met Mr Holland and Stan the Skeleton. They showed each other which bones they had injured or broken by pointing at Stan and then saw a model of a human heart and thought about how their rib cage protects it and other organs. Back at Brookham the children built their own paper skeletons and labelled the bone names.

On the day of the healthy breakfast challenge, supported by a small army of parent helpers, the children chopped, cut, squeezed, spread and arranged a veritable feast of healthy breakfast foods, including fruit, yoghurt, smoothies, eggs and toast.

The teamwork was excellent, the presentation creative, and the final products a credit to their industriousness.

The guest judge, Mrs S Cryer from Highfield School, was impressed and there were prizes for the healthiest, tastiest and best presented breakfasts.
