IT WAS a case of quality, not quantity, when Harting gardeners took part in the village’s 72nd Summer Show.
Although the recent hot spell ensured the number of entries was slightly down on previous years, there was still a bumper crop of entries at the show organised by the Harting Horticultural Society.
Malcolm Hutchings and David Thistleton-Smith had an excellent year as they claimed the Banksian Medal and Uppark Challenge Cup, respectively.
Cynthia Clue was awarded the Clifford Sharpe Memorial Cup after impressing in the Flowers section while the Wakeford Cup for best flower exhibit was presented to Jim White.
Bev Albery, Sally Woodhead, Nigel Johnson-Hill, Ruth Bonner, Delia Blunden, Heather Shearing, Chris Healey, Matilda MacAnlay and Bea Northey were also big winners with trophies being presented by the Rev Ken Jacques.
The show, which took place on Saturday, concluded with an auction which helped raise funds towards the cost of marquee hire.
