WHEN Petersfield artist Livvy Clark was inspired by a new project, she really got down to business.
She decided to capture in pastel portraits the faces of independent businesses in the town so familiar to residents and shoppers.
And these twenty artworks can be viewed in an exhibition – Characters Captured – at the Flora Twort Gallery, from November 8 to 12.
It will be the first time the portraits will be unveiled to those who agreed to get involved in the venture, and not all did.
In return for their co-operation, each portrait will have a plaque underneath with the name and description of their business.
Livvy (47), of Station Road, usually paints children’s portraits from her home studio, but she wanted to help celebrate the people who give Petersfield its vibrancy. These include Angelo from Sombrero Latin in the market (pictured), Yifat of Mooka, Steve and Ben from Hometown Festivals, and Sally and David from The Sweet Shop.
“Although I usually encounter these individuals in a business capacity, I?wanted the painting to portray them in a more intimate way to show the people behind the business, which I hope I’ve achieved,” said Livvy.
The gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm. Visit www.livvyportraits.com for more.
