FOLK experimentalists Harp and a Monkey sing songs about cuckolded mole catchers, a lone English oak tree which grows at Gallipoli, care in the community and medieval pilgrims – some or all of which they will be sharing with their audience at Grayshott.

This harp ‘n’ banjo driven electro-folk-storytelling trio is imbued with a deep Lancashire sensibility which shines through in their beautifully crafted and sometimes spooky vignettes of northern life, love and remembrance.

Friends for decades, Martin Purdy, Simon Jones and Andy Smith enjoy a fantastic rapport with their audiences and are proud to have never played anywhere and not been invited back.

Their third album, War Stories, came out in July 2016 and was labelled “bold and brilliant” by The Sunday Observer. A firm favourite of Mike Harding, who gave them their first BBC airplay, the band has since been in session on the BBC. Their reputation as a quality live act has meant that they have twice been invited to appear at the annual international showcase, The English Folk Expo, which highlights the best English folk acts on the circuit.

They will be supported at Grayshott Village Hall on Saturday, March 24, at 7.30pm by Jim Cozens. Tickets are £12 for adults and £6 for under-16s. Call Des O’Byrne on 01428 607096.
