East Hampshire police have warned that a bogus officer tried to dupe at least two people in the Petersfield area during a 24-hour spell.
A fraudster claiming to be from Petersfield Police Station contacted people by phone around April 30 and May 1.
The impersonator gave a false ID and collar number before claiming that fraudulent activity had occurred on the victim’s bank cards.
Money was not transferred on either occasion while the police have stated they will never ask for banking details or make a request to transfer money.
People can check the officer is legitimate by taking their name and shoulder number before calling 101.
Anyone who believes they may have been contacted by the impersonator should also call the same number.
