AFTER last weekend’s successful start to the Spirit of Music Festival in Petersfield, the event moves to Greatham and Liss this Saturday and Sunday.

Poet and broadcaster Stewart Henderson will be at Greatham Children’s Literary Festival, which will be held in a yurt on Church Field, next to St John’s Church, from 2pm to 5pm tomorrow (Saturday). There will also be music and crafts as well as presentation of prizes for the school’s poetry competition.

Later the marquee will be the venue for an evening of Syrian music, played by Syrian musicians Rihab Azar and Trio Zamaan on traditional Syrian instruments. Starting at 5.30pm, concert tickets at £10 for adults are available on the door or from the Triangle Centre in Liss.

At the finale to this year’s festival, at St Mary’s Church, Liss, on Sunday at 3.30pm, SouthDowns Camerata will inspire a mixed age audience with classical treats, highlighting young talent.

The programme will include Telemann’s Three Violin Concerto, Bartok’s Romanian Folk Dances and the Yiddish folk song suite by Malcolm Singer ‘Songs from the Shtetl’, with Young SouthDowns Strings. Free entry, with a retiring collection. For details, visit: www.spiritofmusicfestival.org.uk
