A councillor has bemoaned the “incredibly frustrating” wait for safety improvements at a deadly crossroads in Petersfield following another accident.
It’s now looking like changes will be made to the Pulens Lane and Durford Road junction in late summer with a scheme costed up and ready to go.
But readers will be forgiven for thinking ‘we’ve heard this before’ as changes were anticipated at the blackspot last summer before attentions shifted to Dragon Street.
The need for changes was once again highlighted on January 19 after a hatchback left the road at the Heath corner following a two-vehicle accident, with thankfully no injuries being recorded.
“It’s incredibly frustrating,” said Cllr Rob Mocatta of Hampshire County Council, on the wait for changes, adding: “It’s going to happen but we don’t know when.
“The number of accidents isn’t going to be a factor.”
A spokesperson for HCC confirmed a safety improvement scheme for the Rival Moor Road to Heath Road East section has been approved with funding being identified for traffic calming measures.
The spokesperson said: “The scheme is currently programmed to begin later this year, most likely in the Autumn, and we will update local councillors and the community as soon as we have confirmed dates.”
