IT WAS the dry weather organisers had been praying for as this year’s carollers were able to gather in Petersfield Square for the popular annual carol service.

For only the second time in the past five years, crowds were able to enjoy the Carols in The Square service, without a drop of rain in sight.

Around 300 people took part in the open air service last Wednesday organised by the Petersfield Area Churches Together (PACT) group.

The Rev Will Hughes, of St Peter’s said:?“Around 30 people also joined us for the walk from the Petersfield Methodist Church, through Rams Walk and then to The Square.

“There was an extremely big crowd this year, nearly 300 people, and this event has become a lovely Christmas tradition.”

The carols started at 7pm and finished at around 7.30pm. Music, as always, was provided by the ‘wonderful’ Salvation Army Band, which have played for the service every year.

As well as the carols, there was a short Christmas message and some prayers.

Afterwards the crowd enjoyed mince pies.
