TWO WOMEN from the Petersfield area have written a book to come to the aid of everyone stressed by the competing demands of 21st century life.
From building better relationships to improving sleep patterns to conquering the demands of incoming e-mails, they have set out to offer a four-step programme to develop good habits.
Three years ago old friends psychotherapist and counsellor Jennie Miller and freelance journalist Victoria Lambert decided to share their knowledge and experiences to help other people take back control of their busy lives.
The result is Boundaries, published by HarperCollins, and subtitled How to Draw the Line in Your Head, Heart and Home, and is a practical guide with case studies and exercises to follow.
Victoria said: “The inspiration came when we were discussing the little niggles of everyday life and how we all want to do everything. It’s difficult to say ‘no’ and I asked Jennie how I could get to that point.”
With her professional training, Jennie knew about the importance of setting boundaries.
“Victoria asked if there was a book about the concept. I said there wasn’t and she said we should write one.
“I had written articles but not a book and it was quite a commitment,” added Jennie.
The pair set their own boundaries while compiling the book, getting together on Mondays, stopping for a proper lunch and a walk midway before resuming.
They have been delighted with the response to Boundaries, which already has featured in Good Housekeeping magazine, and is on sale in a number of foreign countries as well as in a talking book format.
The duo hope to develop their ideas further and tackle specific issues in separate books.
After a successful launch at Beatons Tearooms in High Street, Petersfield, Victoria and Jennie will be hosting a talk at the same venue on March 16.
