THE WRATH of a mother wronged is about to be unleashed as Boudicca storms the stage.
Taking on the role of the legendary warrior queen who rose up against the Romans after they flogged her and raped her daughters is Petersfield hairdresser Karina Swann (40).
Although a professional actress, Karina is new to the Lion and Unicorn Players, who are putting on Boudicca at Verulamium, by Imogen de la Bere, from May 8 to 13.
“She’s the ultimate female superhero, particularly in light of today when we are still looking at inequality,” said Karina.
“She is often portrayed as a ‘strident harridan’ or a ‘fiery hag’ but you have got to have sympathy for her, and for her reaction as a mother.”
The play is at Zurs (private house) in Rake, on May 8 and 9, in aid of Butser Homestart; at St Peter’s Church, Petersfield, on May 10 and 11; and in the Great?Roundhouse at Butser Ancient Farm, on May 12 and 13. All performances are at 8pm.
Tickets are on sale now, priced £12, and £6 for under- 18s, available from One Tree Books in Lavant Street, or Butser Ancient Farm. Also book online at www.lionandunicornplayers.co.uk
