LISS Athletic Football Club’s junior section has held its annual funday.
The funday was held at Liss Cricket Club on Bank Holiday Monday.
There was a barbecue, refreshments, a sweet stall and a speed shot on the day.
The funday involved all the age groups, and matches were played between the minis – five years old to seven years old.
The under-eight Jaguars played the under-nine Vikings, and there was a mix up of the under-tens and under-11s to play an 11-a-side match, and the under-12s played a mix up of the under-13s and under-15s.
The final match of the day was between the football club coaches and the cricket club XI.
The weather did not dampen spirits, as when each lot of boys finished their games they joined Liss’ very own barmy army, led by Jude Brindley, to cheer on the subsequent matches.
The football club lost last year, but this year the final score was 7-6 to the football club, who won the newly named Richard Pleace Senior Memorial Trophy.
Richard Pleace Senior, who sadly died last month, was a popular member of the cricket club.
He had been involved in the cricket club for 27 years in many different roles, training youngsters, playing, sitting on the committee and spending many hours working on the ground. Richard’s family were there on the day.
His grandchildren Finley and Maisy were the mascots, his son Richard played in goal for the cricket club and his daughter Michelle presented the trophy.
