TWO of the stars of an award-winning reality TV show have given a raffle winner an afternoon to remember in a tea room near Rowlands Castle.

Sue Tong brought two of her friends along to meet Gogglebox stars, Chris Steed and Stephen Webb, for afternoon tea in Stansted House Pavilion on Wednesday.

The treat was the top prize in a Christmas Fair in Catherington that friends and relatives of Ashley and Lisa Tong held in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association.

The couple, who recently moved from Catherington to Petersfield, suffered heartbreak in April 2014 when their three-year-old daughter, Amelia May, died following a seizure.

Mrs Tong was diagnosed with MND just six weeks later but that didn’t stop the courageous pair from devoting their lives to charity with the couple raising more than £20,000 for Epilepsy Research UK and the MND Association over the following two years.

Lisa’s mum and sister organised the most recent event while her former boss, Jennifer Edwards of Waterlooville salon, Jenuine Styles, secured the Gogglebox prize.

She asked Sarah Butler, GHD (Good Hair Day) sales representative, for a signed photograph of the stars as the Brighton-area hairdressers are among her favourite clients.

The pair showed they are cut above the celebrity crowd by offering to treat the winner and two friends to afternoon tea in Stansted House, with the latter then deciding to foot the bill.

“They’re quite a fun pair,” said Sue in regards to Stephen and Chris, who delighted the prize-winner and her Portsmouth friends, Marlene Stafford and Ann Brook, with stories of their experiences on both sides of the Channel 4 cameras.

The also talked openly about their hopes for the future and their close encounters with Danny Dyer and Aidan Turner during the National Television Awards.

The pair also talked about their charity work and how good causes have benefited from their fame, especially when the subject turned to Ashley and Lisa.

“If there’s any way to raise awareness then we will,” said Stephen, with Chris highlighting the impact of the ice bucket challenge as an example. “Yes, we could have signed a picture but this is much more personal and enjoyable and we all get something out of it.”
