A CHARITY golf day, dinner and auction organised by a Petersfield cancer sufferer went with a swing.

Around 50 golfers took part in the event at Petersfield Golf Club which has so far raised more than £2,100 for the Orchid charity, fighting male cancers.

Neil Hadaway (45), who was diagnosed with testicular cancer in January, has been raising awareness around town of the need for men to get symptoms checked out.

He was delighted with the support for the event, and the amount raised.

“It was an amazing total and everyone who turned up made it a fantastic day,” he said.

He thanked all the sponsors too, many of them local businesses. They were: The Five Bells at Buriton, Grayshott Pottery, Duncan Eves Jewellers, Tesco, Portsmouth FC, Village Inn, Arsenal FC, Marlon Bunday Photography, Bailey Automotive, Asda, Auto Protect and Positive Lifestyle Gym.

Prizes in the auction included a meal for two at the Five Bells, vouchers for Grayshott Pottery, Tesco and Asda, framed and signed photo of Arsenal FC, a framed and signed Portsmouth FC shirt and a one-on-one bootcamp session.

Following treatment Neil, an installer with Petersfield conservatory company Alitex, is now in remission following nine weeks of chemotherarpy.

“My mission is to get out there and raise awareness,” he said. “There are definitely more and more guys who know me now and want to talk about it.”
