IT WAS scary how good Hallowe’en was across East Hampshire with ghostly goings on, trick and treats and pumpkins aplenty.
The frighteners were well and truly put on at a spooky number of spine-tingling events hosted by pubs, cafes, shops, visitor attractions and farms.
It was a zombie-themed Fright Night at Butser Ancient Farm with ghoulish characters waiting to pounce on the 80-plus visitors in the Roundhouse and Roman villa there at the weekend.
Earlier in the week, children had been entertained by a performance of Fairy Big Toe and the Dream Snatchers, written by Faye Thompson of the Lion and Unicorn Players.
Around 200 youngsters gathered at the Plump Duck cafe on Petersfield Heath on Friday night as it was acted out again for Hallowe’en.
At the town’s Pages Court shopping area there was more Hallowe’en fun for dressed up youngsters, with £200 made for Children in Need.
A Zombie Trail, pumpkin carving competition, face painting and more were laid on at Rams Walk shopping mall through half-term, with plenty of chances to win prizes and Anton Ghoul and DonnaBella Zomberella providing entertainment.
Rogate’s Pumpkin Patch proved a big hit with families as they went to pick their own or enjoy barrel rides and fish and chips during half-term week.
Hundreds of visitors who went ‘dressed to scare’ enjoyed two Hallowe’en evenings at Hollycombe’s Steam in the Country, with the vintage attractions decked out. Jack o’Lanterns and ghosts were pitched alongside the miniature railways and children bobbed for apples.
At Langrish House Hotel, a treasure hunt and other family fun was organised by photographer Terry Boutwell to raise money for the Dreams Come True charity.
Over at Sheet, the Queen’s Head pub was an arachnophobic’s nightmare with the exterior covered in giant spiders and a web.
Simon and Laura Crates put on a Hallowe’en show by decorating their house at Ramshill as they have done for the last six years. They truly let the boys and ghouls come out to play, they say, with the decorations bigger and better.
