THE WEATHER brought crowds flocking to Petersfield town centre for the annual Spring Festival over the Bank Holiday weekend.

There wasn’t much spring-like about the weather during the three-day event which started on Saturday evening, as people sweltered in temperatures into the high 20s degrees Celsius.

The weather gods were certainly smiling on Petersfield throughout the event, as, while some areas in the South had to endure downpours and thunderstorms, the festival enjoyed wall to wall sunshine throughout.

And while the high temperatures and glorious sunshine brought people in their thousands to the town centre, visitors and residents were not left disappointed when they got there.

On Sunday and Monday, The Square and High Street were lined with stalls selling a whole array of produce, homeware and gifts.

There was plenty of things for youngsters to enjoy with children’s entertainment shows and a chance to get their hands on some creepy crawlies at the Bugfest attraction.

Classic and vintage vehicles on display throughout the weekend, with American classics and hotrods on show during Sunday, and then a mixture of mini and full size steam engines and some Minis as well.

For anyone looking to party the Bank Holiday weekend away then The Square was the place to head to with live music on Saturday night, all day Sunday and until the festival closing time on Monday afternoon drawing in large audiences.

A mixture of rock, blues and country music was provided by Saturday’s headline act, Splinter.

On Sunday the main band was Festival Nights, a quartet who played their own versions of popular songs.

On Monday the musical line up was led by Amy Baker, who brought her vintage looks and sounds to the closing day of the Spring Festival.

Organisers of the event, Hometown Festivals, were overjoyed at how well the three day event went.

Spokesman Ben Errey said: “What a weekend. After the weather threatening to dampen our spirits we have been so lucky to have an incredible sunny festival.

“The sun has shone on us all weekend and we have had thousands of people attending the festival.

“The music on stage has been awesome, including the Festival Knights who rocked the Sunday night.

“Hometown works very hard to bring the free to enter festival to Petersfield. We think it enriches the town and makes it the best place to live in the UK.

“We would to thank everyone involved who has helped to make the event happen.

“Our sponsors, the Hometown crew, the volunteers and, of course, the public that came to support us.”
