IF?YOU have gone through the heartache of a child leaving home for university, you will relate to a new comedy by John Godber, who has penned theatre hits including Teechers and Bouncers.
The Empty Nesters’ Club – which has been described as “a sit-com that is also a bit of a sad-com”, “a socially relevant comedy with riveting acting” and “an entertaining slice of real life” – portrays the emotional rollercoaster of one family.
It comes to the Theatre Royal Winchester from April 6 to 8, with evening performances at 7.30pm and a matinee on April 7 at 1.30pm.
Vicky, her husband and their daughter share their story of empty bedrooms, fresher’s flu, boyfriends, long goodbyes, motorway service stations, trips to IKEA, changing relationships and everything else that happens when an offspring flies the nest.
Written and directed by Yorkshire-born Godber, the play is based on his and his wife’s own experience of their daughter embarking on university life.
The Empty Nesters’ Club is his 60th play and it is 40 years since Bouncers brought him national acclaim.
Godber’s plays are the third most performed in this country after Shakespeare’s and Ayckbourn’s.
Tickets are £23, £21 for concessions and £18 for the matinee. To book visit the website www.theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or call 01962 840440.
