A PETERSFIELD woman tied up while robbers ransacked the home of a 91-year-old pensioner, says she feared for her life.

During the raid, carer Vicki Stamp was dragged out of bed, tied up, blindfolded, and heard June Langdon being threatened with the death of her pet dog unless she revealed where her safe was.

One of the balaclava wearing attackers also took rings from Mrs Langdon’s fingers, before the gang made off with a £100,000 haul of valuables and jewellery.

Last Friday, gang leader Christopher Doughty (54) was given a 16-year-sentence for his part in the attack at The Dower House in East Street, Hambledon.

Speaking after sentencing at Southampton Crown Court, Miss Stamp (28) said she feared she would die during the raid in which Doughty was the only member of the gang to be tracked down.

She said: “I thought there was a real risk they could kill me because you see it happen on TV, when they tie people up and kill them before leaving. It was petrifying.

“It’s in the back of my mind now. I think it’s good he’s got 16 years and I was expecting it to be so long. We were advised it was going to be a long time and I’m pleased it was.”

A carer for ten years, she added that the terrifying ordeal on October 8, 2014, has left her unable to work nights.

Sentencing Doughty on the charge of aggravated burglary, Judge Gary Burrell QC, said it was highly unlikely Mrs Langdon would ever forget the harrowing raid.

He said: “Bearing in mind her advanced years, she could easily have had a heart attack or stroke and died during this terrifying event.

“She blames herself for what happened to her carer and has become anxious about security.”

Judge Burrell then told Doughty of Holly Gardens, West End, Southampton: “Your life has been one of crime and burglary and no prison sentence has had any impact on you at all.

“You will be a much, much older man by the time the parole board considers your case.”

Doughty – just 11 when he first appeared in court – was also given a concurrent five year sentence for possession of a loaded shotgun, found in his car’s boot after the raid
