READERS of the latest novel of Greatham author Jim Morley will no doubt recognise some local landmarks.

A Year of Law and Love, his eleventh book, has strong Petersfield connections, and South Marshall is easily recognisable as South Harting.

It is a romantic novel, albeit one with a dramatic finale before a happy ending.

The couple who get together in later life, Justin and Leanne, eat in an Italian restaurant in The Square and enjoy great music in the Festival Hall, Petersfield.

Justin, who has been through a bitter divorce, lives in a flat in Castle Gardens in the centre of town. His ex-wife lives in Bosham and there are references to Chichester and sailing in the harbour too.

“It will make a good holiday read,” says Jim (78), a member of East Hampshire Writers. “I am regularly in Petersfield and I know Chichester very well so they were a natural setting. It does have a rather chilling, dramatic episode but the ending is happy.”

The book is being launched at One Tree Books on Wednesday, June 1, at 6.30pm, when Jim will be signing copies.
