Horndean has a hot new attraction as a Multi-Use Games Area was opened on a sweltering day in the village.
There was fun and games for all ages as Horndean Parish Council celebrated the official opening of the new MUGA and callisthenic gym equipment at Jubilee Park.
The council made the major investment after receiving £95,000 in CIL funding from East Hampshire District Council with Play Innovations supplying the equipment.
Matt Madill, HPC Grounds Manager, oversaw the project with proceeds from the council’s own CIL fund being spent on a dropped kerb and widen pathway to the equipment. Two wheelchair-accessible picnic tables are also on their way thanks to grants from EHDC’s Elaine Woodard and former county councillor, Marge Harvey.
The launch event attended by councillors, families and suppliers including a series of energetic games and challenges for youngsters, with medals and prizes being awarded to the winners.
Horndean councillor and EHDC vice-chair, Cllr David Evans, called the project an “important step in expanding high-quality recreational spaces” across the parish before cutting the ribbon.
He added: “Jubilee Park is now even better equipped to serve local families, young people, and adults looking to stay active.”
“The new equipment has been designed with accessibility and broad appeal at its core and we are very grateful to EHDC for their support with this project,” said HPC chair, Cllr Andrew Redding.
“The MUGA provides a versatile space suitable for a wide range of sports and informal play, while the callisthenic gym offers free-to-use fitness opportunities that encourage strength, mobility, and outdoor exercise.”
“The additions of the pathway and accessible picnic table provide a wonderful new facility, demonstrating what can be achieved by working in partnership and supports the Parish Council’s commitment to community health and wellbeing, youth provision and inclusion.”
