VITAL money was handed out to good causes in the community at Liphook Carnival’s annual general meeting.

Among the groups which benefited on the night were the 1st Liphook Scout Group, Liphook District Guides, the Methodist Amateur Dramatics (MAD) Company, Liphook Methodist Church, Hampshire Search and Rescue, and Liphook Village Hall management committee.

Other recipients included the Peak Centre Trust, Little Cherubs Nursery, Liphook United Football Club, Liphook Over 60s Club, Bramshott and Liphook Voluntary Care Group, the Royal British Legion, the Firefighters Charity, the Community Support Laundry and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

Liphook Carnival committee chairman Karen Feeney said: “The meeting went well and people turned up to collect their money.

“We gave a financial update, and district councillor Bill Mouland is contributing some of his money towards finance insurance cover for floats entering the carnival.

“There were also a number of people to thank, including Bramshott and Liphook Parish Council, Hampshire Search and Rescue, Barbara Frost and her team, Paul Robinson and all the marshals, Andy Kelsey for crowning the Carnival Queen and Cllr Floss Mitchell.”

Karen has been carnival chairman for ten years, and had announced that she was going to stand down at the meeting due to work and family commitments, and remain on the committee.

However, nobody has come forward as the new chairman yet.

“I’m still caretaker chairman until someone steps forward,” said Karen.

This year’s carnival will be held on Saturday, October 28.
